Calle de Edgar, Havana
by Charlie Hunter
Medium: oil on panel
"Painted in Havana during Eric Rhodes' Cuba painting trip. I had set up my rig next to Edgar, a restaurant tout whose line was to shout,'A SUGGESTION FOR LUNCH!!!!' to English-speaking-looking people wandering by. After I realized what his job was, I joined in, shouting, 'The finest lunch in all of Havana!!' at startled Canadians, which amused Edgar greatly. He reciprocated by demanding 'One CUC!' (basically the tourist dollar) anytime someone took my picture (the Square if full of Cubans in varying fetching native garb, all demanding one CUC if you take their picture). We cracked each other up." -- Charlie Hunter
